Graduate Nursing Program

New Graduate Nursing Program at Presbyterian/St. Luke's Medical Center and Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children

Welcome! A goal of Presbyterian/St Luke’s Medical Center and Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children at P/SL is to assist the New BSN RN Graduate in transitioning into their role as a healthcare team member.

To assist in this process, a New Graduate Nursing Program is available, which includes 2 months of weekly classroom time held in 8-hour blocks, as well as, being assigned to a preceptor on the unit for direction and guidance.  As our hospital seeks Magnet Status, the program is reserved for BSN candidates only.  Unfortunately Associate Degree new graduates will not be considered.

This program incorporates information pertinent to areas from around the hospital, whether it is adult, pediatric or neonatal care. Nurses working with the pediatric and neonatal population attend four of nurse residency classes, but are on a tract that diverges from the main program for four sessions.

During these pediatric-specific sessions, participants learn about diagnoses, treatments, and nursing considerations unique to infants and children. Through a blend of lectures, case studies, and skills labs, new employees develop a strong foundation on which to build their pediatric nursing practice.

P/SL and Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children at P/SL offer a "New to the NICU" Program for the new graduate nurse. This program consists of a 12-week orientation period in the NICU or graduate nursery. Weekly classes are included which focus on common problems and nursing care of the high risk neonate.

The New Graduate Nursing Program is held twice a year (September & March) and new employees starting outside of the traditional track are more than welcome to attend and/or return for classes missed as permitted per their managers.

  • September candidates should watch for potential openings in late July or early August
  • March candidates should watch for potential openings in late January or early February
  • We can extend an offer to a new graduate contingent upon that person passing the NCLEX.
  • You will not apply to the New Grad Program, but will want to apply to job postings which state New Grad RNs are eligible to apply in the title.
  • Example: "RN Staff-PEDS-Full Time-Nights (New Grad RNs are eligible to apply)".

All new grads are required to complete an on-line application. This will allow you to apply not only to P/SL, but to other HealthONE facilities as well ( Please be sure to upload a resume and cover letter (letters of reference are only required upon hire). Click, "Presbyterian/St. Luke’s Medical Center”, scroll to the bottom of the page and select the link, “Learn more about the programs and services offered at Presbyterian/St. Luke's Medical Center." Sometimes, New Grad positions will not be available. During this time, it is recommended that you contact the RN Recruiter via e-mail if you have questions.  All inquiries will receive a reply.
