Orthopedic Surgeon Featured by NFL, NBC News

Presbyterian/St. Luke's physician, Dr. Ron Hugate, of the The Denver Clinic for Extremities at Risk recently was the subject of a National Football League and NBC Sports film, part of a series called “Together We Make Football.” To promote the film, the network flew Dr. Hugate to New York City to be interviewed by anchor Matt Lauer and NBC Sports’ Josh Elliott on The Today Show.

NBC and the NFL singled Dr. Hugate out because he’s an orthopedic surgeon who has a high success rate on very complex cases, including osteosarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer that affects mostly children, and because he played 11 years of football. Moreover, he is an Army Reserve officer who has served in Iraq and Afghanistan, and he is doing cutting-edge research on permanent prosthetics for amputees.
