Hip Arthritis, The Denver Clinic

The most common type of arthritis of the hip is osteoarthritis. This is a condition that develops when the joint surfaces become inflamed. As this condition progresses the surfaces begin to wear out, and the bones that make up the joint can become deformed. Bone spurs are not uncommon with osteoarthritis.

As osteoarthritis progresses it can be painful and a person may notice the motion in the joint has decreased. A physician can diagnose hip osteoarthritis with a plain x-ray of the hip.
