Labor & Delivery Unit
The birth of a child is one of the most exciting, fulfilling events life has to offer. When you arrive at Presbyterian/St. Luke's Medical Center (P/SL), you will find a knowledgeable team committed to making your pregnancy and birthing experience safe and successful. We have created an environment that provides a childbirth experience uniquely suited to your needs as an individual, a couple and a family. This helpful guide will explain how to prepare for the big day.
Labor & Delivery Rooms
At P/SL, our secure Labor & Delivery unit features rooms designed for your comfort and care. You and your birth partner will experience labor and delivery in one of our private, comfortable birthing rooms featuring large windows and sleeping chairs for partners. Each has its own shower, television and birthing or peanut ball upon request.
Your extended family, grandparents, children, and friends are welcome to visit at any time. Please review our visitor guidelines ahead of time, as we have certain restrictions in place during cold and flu season.
The P/SL Approach to Labor and Delivery
Our labor and delivery nurses strive to support your decisions regarding the type of birthing experience you desire. We believe in a family-centered approach, with as minimal intervention as possible for you and your baby's safety.
We follow all national standards for monitoring you and your baby's health and well-being during delivery, including monitoring of the fetal heart rate during labor. Our board-certified laborists are available to counsel you and provide you with a safe and special birth experience.
Should you deliver by cesarean section, you will be cared for in one of our surgical suites and recovery rooms, also located on the Labor & Delivery Unit. Even during cesarean births, partners are encouraged to be with the mother and infant.
