Avid runner and health enthusiast, Janet Braccio, found herself sidelined when her hip pain became simply unbearable. Initially seeking treatment in Boulder, doctors there were surprised to discover a large pelvic bone tumor. She was quickly referred to Dr. Ronald Hugate (Orthopedic Surgeon at Presbyterian/St. Luke’s Medical Center) and the team at The Denver Clinic, where she received a surprise diagnosis of an Intermediate grade cancer.
Since her type of cancer was not sensitive to chemotherapy or radiation, Janet underwent a complex, 15+ hour surgery under the care of Drs. Hugate, Kumar, Schnur and Kramer in 2015 to successfully remove the cancer and reconstruct her pelvis. Amazingly, a bone transplant procedure was used to move a bone from her leg to reconstruct her pelvis using state-of-the-art surgical techniques. Janet is now cancer free and getting her life back.
